Understanding Mental Health

With civilization’s development and technology advancing, society is becoming more complex, diverse and is seeing an increase in mental suffering. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that mental health problems are common, with at least one out of every five people at risk. This indicates that we can encounter people who are struggling with mental health problems at any point in our lives. Mental health is defined in various ways and the meaning can be very different for individuals. Fundamentally, mental health is a vital resource in our daily lives because it affects our emotions, thoughts, interpersonal relationships, and the way we understand the world. Good mental health means maintaining a well-balanced and resilient lifestyle, and having the ability to cope with the stresses of everyday life, and overcome any failures. Mental illness is not caused by a lack of will or morality. It is important to raise awareness in society that people can recover through medical, family and relatives' help, and in doing so dispel inaccurate societal knowledge and prejudice against mental illnesses. Those who are on their recovery journey must be encouraged to find and lead meaningful lives by improving their understanding and awareness of positive mental health.
